Nurse Drop-in Service
We are fortunate to have our own academy nurse, Ms Anna Knight. Our academy has worked alongside Anna and the school nurse team for many years. Anna makes regular visits to the academy and will begin to run a drop-in service for any student who wishes to access the service.
The Nurse Drop-in is a confidential service where young people can access support and advice around a number of health matters. If the young person presents with a risk either to themselves or someone else we would at that point liaise with relevant family members and professionals and refer to children’s services as appropriate in order to safeguard that young person. This will be communicated with the young person each time they attend the drop in.
The types of services that will be offered to the students depends on what the young person’s needs are and how they present in the drop in. Some of the key services that the Drop-in are able to provide include:
- Weight management
- Advice on healthy lifestyles / balanced diet / physical activity / personal care
- Enuresis assessment and support
- Referrals to secondary health care services such as Healthy Eating Team, Incontinence service, Community Doctors, Drug and Alcohol Services, smoking cessation, sexual health clinics, counselling services, CAMHS and Domestic abuse support groups
The drop-in sessions shall commence at the academy from Wednesday 7th December 2016 and will run every fortnight during PSHE sessions.
